MORE THAN 7,000 customers have responded to the National Water Commission’s (NWC) Amnesty Programme, with many successfully formalising their contracts and reconnecting to the NWC’s network.

Since the launch of the initiative on January 2, customers have been contacting the NWC’s 14 offices to access much-needed relief on debt owed to the water utility. The write-off is geared at helping customers to settle outstanding balances, and also to regain access to essential water services.

With the amnesty and also an accompanying loyalty programme now running until March 31, customers are being encouraged to seize the opportunity and the significant savings to be gained from the NWC’s amnesty and loyalty package dubbed ‘Bucketful of Goodies’.

Under the amnesty programme, customers can benefit from the following:

HALF AND HALF (50 PER CENT WRITE-OFF)

Residential accounts disconnected for six months or more will benefit from a waiver of reconnection fees and a 50 per cent debt write-off, upon payment of the remaining 50 per cent.

100 PER CENT WRITE-OFF – PATH BENEFICIARIES AND PENSIONERS

Pensioners and PATH beneficiaries may get a 100 per cent discount on debts older than two years (applicable for both active and inactive accounts).

CUSTOMER RELIEF MEASURES

In addition to the previously announced programme, customers who are in arrears may also access benefits under Customer Relief Measures. Discount options include:

• Ninety days to two years (because of underground leaks): 25 per cent discount with six to 12 months to settle balance.

• Three to five years: 30 per cent to 35 per cent discount with three to 18 months to clear.

• Six-11 years: 40 per cent discount with up to six months.

• Over 11 years: 50 per cent discount with up to three months.

LOYALTY PROGRAMME

The National Water Commission (NWC) also has thousands of customers who may also reap benefits in its Bill Free Promotion. Through this rewards initiative, 350 residential customers who pay their bills on time and in full between December 18, 2024 and March 31, 2025 will each receive a $20,000 credit. Additionally, three customers who also register for NWC’s e-bill service, and pay their bills on time and in full during the promotion period, could win a share of $600,000 in cash.

Eligible customers are again encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. For further details, customers may visit an NWC office, contact our customer service team via our toll-free line 888-CALL-NWC (888-225-5692), email customercare@nwc.com.jm or visit the nwcjamaica.com.
