Update | Man who robbed patron at gunpoint at nightclub in Ewarton charged
The man who robbed a patron at a nightclub in Ewarton, St Catherine at gunpoint on Sunday night has been charged by the police.
Tee Jay Powell, 23, of Waterloo district in Ewarton, is charged with robbery with aggravation, unlawful wounding, malicious destruction of property, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
His court date is being finalised.
Reports are that about 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, Powell entered the nightclub, held the patron at gunpoint, and robbed him of $17,000.
When the victim resisted, the gun-toting thief allegedly assaulted him, tearing his shirt and striking him with the firearm, according to the police.
Swift action by the police led to Powell’s apprehension at the scene.
A search of his person revealed a Beretta pistol along with a magazine containing seven rounds of ammunition.
He was arrested and the firearm was seized.
Following further investigations, he was charged.
