A 21-year-old St Catherine man has been charged by the police for allegedly using someone else’s account to spend over $1 million on online transactions.

He is Macai Smith, also known as 'Kai,' a labourer of Tucker Road in Ewarton, who is charged with unauthorized access to computer data, simple larceny, and conspiracy to defraud.

Reports from the Spanish Town police are that between September and December 2024 Smith made a series of online transactions on the complainant's account, which accumulated to $1,250,771.44, without his authorisation.

A report was made to the police and an investigation was launched.

Following the investigation, Smith was found to be the person behind the fraudulent transaction.

He was subsequently arrested and charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

Smith is scheduled to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday, February 14.
