Two men who were accused of taking $2.7 million from a complainant and failing to deliver a Toyota Voxy were freed on Friday after the Crown conceded the matter could not be successfully prosecuted.

Milton Green of Brown's Town, St Ann, was charged with fraudulent conversion and conspiracy to defraud, while Damion Beckford of Angels, St Catherine, was charged with fraudulent conversion.

When Green and Beckford appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court the Clerk of Court told the judge, "There are discrepancies, such as the identification of how the money was passed. If the matter goes to trial, the Crown could not mount a successful prosecution."

Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle then told the men that as a result of the inconsistencies they would be freed.

Attorney-at-law Craig Carter told the court that justice had been served.

"From the onset, the defence had submitted that it would have been tenuous at best to properly try this matter," Carter said.

It was alleged that on June 1, 2024, the complainant paid $2.7 million to the men for the purchase of the vehicle.

The court heard that the vehicle was not delivered as promised and the money was not returned to the complainant.

A report was made to the police and an investigation led to the arrest and charge of both men.
