Psychiatric evaluation ordered for man allegedly caught stealing oranges
A St Catherine man who was allegedly caught stealing oranges from the Trade Winds Citrus farm near Riversdale in the parish has been remanded for psychiatric evaluation.
When Dwayne Wright appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday he pleaded not guilty to the praedial larceny charge against him.
He also told the court that he is a psychiatric outpatient.
Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne then stated that a plea could not be entertained due to Wright's mental state.
He is to reappear in court on March 18 when the matter will again be mentioned.
It is alleged that on February 5 security personnel caught Wright picking oranges and placing them inside a bag.
He allegedly said that he was seeking to buy food.
"Is few orange mi a look fi buy mackerel fi cook," the accused reportedly said.
Wright was arrested and subsequently charged.
He was not represented by an attorney when he appeared in court.
