Manchester mother charged for attempting to smuggle contraband to son in lock-up

A 40-year-old Manchester mother was on Sunday charged for attempting to smuggle contraband hidden in slices of bread into the Christiana Police Lock-up on a visit to her son.

Monique Palmer, of Ballynure district, is charged with introducing contraband to a police lock-up.

Reports from the police are that about 1:15 p.m., during the designated visiting hours for prisoners, Palmer was visiting her son who is currently in custody.

She presented several items to the police.

During a search of the items, ganja, tobacco leaves, and an earphone were found concealed in slices of bread, according to the police.

She was then arrested and subsequently charged.

Her court date is being finalised.
