Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis is the new head coach of Montego Bay United Football Club (MBU) for the rest of the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) 2024-25 season.

The announcement was made on the team’s social media page last night.

Davis will be replacing Argentinian Rodolfo Zapata who was with the team for seven months this season.

Davis will be replacing Argentine Rodolfo Zapata, who was with the team for seven months this season.

On Saturday, both Zapata and the team announced that they had parted ways by mutual consent.

Zapata was brought in during July 2024 to replace Brazilian Neider Dos Santos, who was let go at the end of last season.

With this impressive run and a likely play-off spot, the team has recorded 14 wins, six draws, and four losses, accumulating 48 points.

They sit below second-place Arnett Gardens, also on 48 points, and first-place Mount Pleasant, which leads with 61 points.

Davis is no stranger to MBU, having first taken the reins as head coach in 2016.

He returned again in 2022.

In the ISSA/Schoolboy Football 2024 season, Davis served as the head coach for Rusea’s High.

Davis was once Jamaica’s all-time leading goalscorer.

During his playing career, he primarily represented Montego Bay club Seba United, which was later renamed Montego Bay United.

Additionally, Davis has enjoyed significant coaching success, including leading Montego Bay United to the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) National Premier League title and Arnett Gardens to the JFF National Under-21 League championship.

Another high-profile Premier League club coached by Davis was Mount Pleasant Academy.

He also coached his alma mater, Clarendon College, and, due to his success in youth coaching, much is expected of the former goal-scoring ace.

MBU will host Racing United at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Thursday, February 20.
