WESTERN BUREAU:

Four longtime employees of the St James Municipal Corporation (StJMC) were recently honoured at the parish level for their unwavering commitment and over 25 years of service. This recognition comes just three months after they received national acclaim.

Jacqueline Wilson, matron of the St James Infirmary; Alvin Morris, a plumber at StJMC; and security personnel Linton Holmes and Andrea Munroe were presented with certificates of long service by StJMC’s Chief Executive Officer, Naudia Crosskill, during the corporation’s monthly meeting on February 13.

Wilson, who has served at the infirmary since 1998, expressed her joy at being acknowledged for her nearly 27 years of service.

“I am so elated because when you are recognised for the work you do, it means a lot. I am happy to be awarded and recognised by the StJMC,” said Wilson, who started as a temporary assistant matron in 1998, became a permanent staff member in 2009, and was promoted to matron in 2012.

Morris, who has been with the StJMC since 1996, also shared his gratitude for the recognition.

“I feel so good about it. When the place where you work acknowledges you, it means you are truly appreciated. I will continue to do my best for many more years,” Morris told The Gleaner.

Holmes and Munroe have also served for 27 years since joining StJMC in 1998. Holmes began as a temporary watchman in the Road and Works Department and became a permanent employee in 2010, while Munroe has been a watchperson with the Commercial Services Unit since joining.

All four awardees were previously among 497 Jamaicans honoured with the Jamaica Civil Service Long Service Award by Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen and Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness on November 21, 2024. The award is presented to civil servants who have served the Government for 25 years or more.

Montego Bay Mayor Richard Vernon commended the employees, emphasising the significance of loyalty and dedication in public service.

“The awardees’ unwavering commitment and hard work have been invaluable. Recognising their efforts reminds us of the importance of dedication and service. We thank them for their contributions and look forward to many more years of invaluable service,” said Vernon.
