Portland cashier charged for allegedly pocketing rent money
A Portland cashier was arrested and charged on Monday for allegedly pocketing rent money collected on behalf of her employer.
She is 23-year-old Jada Lindsay of Mount Pleasant in Hope Bay, who has been charged with larceny as a servant and fraudulent conversion.
Her court date is being finalised.
According to the police, the money was stolen between December 2024 and January 2025.
Reports from the Port Antonio police are that Lindsay, an employee at a business establishment on West Street, Port Antonio, collected several months’ worth of rent from tenants on behalf of the complainant but kept the money for herself.
When confronted by the complainant, Lindsay admitted to using the money for personal expenses, according to the police.
An audit of the store revealed that January 2025 sales were short by $88,000.
The accused was not given permission to use the funds, leading to a report being made to the police.
On Monday, March 10, Lindsay was arrested and later charged following a question-and-answer interview.
