Jamaicans aged 65 and older will have their water bills capped at a flat rate if the People’s National Party (PNP) forms the next government.

Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson, made the announcement on Thursday during his contribution to the 2025–2026 Budget Debate in Parliament.

According to Robinson, the rates will be determined by a special committee.

“A special committee will be established to assess and set a fair and sustainable fixed amount, using historical consumption patterns as a basis,” he said.

Robinson also stated that the policy will be designed to prevent misuse.

“That is, it will prevent situations where consumers, knowing their bill is capped, might engage in excessive or wasteful water usage,” he explained.
