‘Inflicted by the hand of the devil’
Hello mi neighbour,
I want to use this opportunity to solicit super urgent assistance for one of our needy neighbours. He is now blind! For easy reference, let’s call him ‘Mr Needy’. Mi neighbour, if at all you can assist, do not hesitate! Call us posthaste! While this case may be one among many of its kind, the situation is dire and without your help, this brother, our own flesh and blood, could languish in his misery until the grim reaper reaps ... .
Mr Needy said that he was “inflicted by the hand of the devil” which resulted in his face and other parts of his body receiving burns. Breathing for him has become quite a challenge. Except for the infrequent visits from his three children, he is usually alone. He lives in St Mary. His house is becoming more and more uninhabitable and there is “nothing I can do to restore it”, he says. Since he has lost his employability to blindness, etc., he has been reaching out to various organisations and individuals for help, without success.
Cutting to the chase, ‘Mr Needy’ is now asking neighbours for 250 concrete blocks, along with sand, gravel, cement and other building materials to restore his dwelling house, especially before “another storm blows”.
In his own voice, Mr Needy says, “The door at mi house so rotten all kinds of creatures live in it ... a lot of hole in the house. If there is a way God could touch you guys’ heart that you could show me a little compassion, I would appreciate it. It seh ‘ask and you shall receive’. So, I am asking for help. Please! I am suffering from anxiety. Many nights I have panic attacks ... like I am going out of my mind. I have problems breathing. These things that I ask for can turn my life around ... I just need to survive. I pray that the Lord will touch somebody’s heart! The old ply on the house are falling off. Please, I’m begging you, please assist me! I am badly in need. It is very hard on me. I am begging some help, people! People of the world, people of God. Been suffering from 2016 until now ... . Thank you, and God bless you.”
DIP OUR HANDS IN OUR POCKETS
That said, I now share some encouraging thoughts with you as we all get ready to dip our hands in our pockets on Mr Needy’s behalf.
A dwelling house is essential for the well-being of human beings! And that includes every single one of us.
A dwelling house provides a safe and secure environment, protecting its occupants from unfriendly weather conditions, animals, and other potential dangers. It is where we cook, bathe, sleep, maintain personal hygiene, and find comfort. A house/home also provides a sense of belonging, identity, and permanence, which are crucial for emotional well-being.
A dwelling house also offers a private and personal space for individuals to rest, relax, and recharge. And not only that, this space can help individuals integrate into their community, establishing relationships with neighbours and local businesses.
Everyone knows that a comfortable and secure home can positively impact mental health, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. And oh how ‘Mr Needy’ yearns for this!
Since we all know that a dwelling house can significantly enhance the overall quality of life, provide a sense of security, stability, and happiness, is essential for human well-being, providing physical, emotional, social, and economic benefits that contribute to our overall quality of life, let us all do all that we can to help all of us live in a comfortable home, beginning with ‘Mr Needy’.
“Give, and it shall be given unto you ... .”
