Member of Parliament Robert Chin lost an internal vote Sunday, effectively ending his bid to remain the ruling Jamaica Labour Party's representative in Manchester Southern.

Local businessman Ian Ives won.

"My candidate won... We have to go out there, mend the fence, work with everybody and get back on track so we can win the next general election," said Iceval Brown, the JLP councillor for the Grove Town division in the constituency.

The party did not give the raw numbers.

But it said Ives secured 54 percent of vote to Chin's 35 per cent.

Adion Peart received 10 per cent.

JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang said the secretariat "intends to respect the outcome of the vote" by the party workers in the constituency, and will make a recommendation to the party's central executive.
