Clarendon taxi operator charged for stealing car, police shoot-out in Manchester

A Clarendon taxi operator accused of stealing a Toyota Axio motor car from a premises in Manchester and engaging the police in a shoot-out has been charged.

Anthony Wallace, otherwise known as 'Travis,' of May Pen, is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

His court date is being arranged.

Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 2:42 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, Wallace and another man visited a premises and stole the car.

An alert was issued to the police, and upon their arrival, the vehicle was spotted parked along the roadway.

The cops approached the vehicle and were confronted by two armed men, who opened fire on them before fleeing the area on foot, according to the police.

An investigation was launched and Wallace was listed as a person of interest.

The police say he turned himself in on Tuesday, March 18, and was subsequently charged on Wednesday, March 19, after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
