Manning’s STEM Day 2025 to fuse innovation with Jamaican heritage
WESTERN BUREAU:
The highly anticipated Manning’s School STEM Day, set for April 2, is poised to revolutionise how students engage with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while celebrating Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage.
Dane Campbell, the event coordinator, emphasised that this year’s edition will be a transformative experience, blending innovation with tradition.
“We envision STEM Day 2025 as a day where creativity, critical thinking, and cultural pride converge,” Campbell said. “We are STEM-ing into the future.”
To be held on the school’s compound in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, the event will feature an exciting lineup of activities, including virtual reality experiences, drone flying competitions, coding challenges, and interactive exhibits that highlight the intersection of technology and Jamaican heritage.
Maya Williams, public relations officer for the organising team, underscored the significance of the event in shaping students’ perspectives.
“This isn’t just about science or technology; it’s about connecting innovation with identity. We want students to see that technology and tradition can coexist and even complement each other,” Williams told The Gleaner.
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS
A highlight of the day will be the keynote address by Kenre Valentine, a marine surveyor at the Maritime Authority of Jamaica. Valentine is expected to discuss how technological advancements are reshaping maritime practices and the importance of integrating cultural awareness into professional development.
Williams also praised the collaborative efforts of the school and its partners, including the Scientific Research Council (SRC), Kris An Charles Investments Company Limited, Chandon & Sons Supermarket, Azul Beach Resort, Fontana Pharmacy, The LASCO Chin Foundation, the Consumer Affairs Commission, Universal Service Fund, Maritime Authority of Jamaica, and Manning’s Alumni.
“It’s truly a community endeavour, and we’re thrilled to see the excitement growing among our students and sponsors,” Williams said.
With its unique blend of innovation and cultural appreciation, STEM Day 2025 promises to be an inspiring experience – equipping Manning’s students with the skills, knowledge, and pride needed to navigate the future.
