US Embassy addresses submission of documents during visa application process
The US Embassy has moved to address what it says are inaccuracies circulating online regarding the submission of documents during the visa application process.
In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, the embassy stated that while certain visa classes can require uploading documents to a portal before the interview, this is not a general requirement.
Unless asked by the embassy to upload a specific document, applicants should not email or attempt to make an upload, the embassy underscored.
Persons should instead carry their supporting documents to their visa interviews in case the consular officer requests to see them.
Meanwhile, in a separate post on X on Monday, the US Embassy warned persons against submitting fake documents with their visa applications.
“You are committing fraud & risking your future,” read the post.
“We stay one step ahead of document vendors, and we adapt to emerging threats. Protect your future travel opportunities – tell the truth and do not provide fake documents,” the embassy added.
It noted that lying or providing fake documents can lead to a permanent ban on travel to the US.
