24-y-o man fatally shot after allegedly challenging police in Ewarton

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the police fatal shooting of a man in Ewarton, St Catherine, on Wednesday.

The deceased is 24-year-old Duwanna Gyles, otherwise called 'Brandon', of Innswood Village, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

A police team was reportedly on operation in Tucker Road, about 7:40 a.m., when the deceased engaged the police in an armed confrontation. Gyles was shot and injured.

The police say a Smith and Wesson pistol affixed with a magazine containing two rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition was seized from him.

He was taken to the Linstead Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
