The main suspect in the March 18 murder of his cousin, Fabian Carr, has surrendered to the St Andrew police after a series of targeted operations to nab him were unsuccessful.

A source close to the investigation told The Gleaner that the 34-year-old suspect turned in himself this morning.

Subsequent to his surrender, shortly after noon, a search was conducted at a premises in Waugh Hills, Red Hills, and an Sig Sauer nine-millimetre pistol with serial number erased was reportedly seized.

He is expected to be charged soon for the crimes.

The weapon is the 13th illegal firearm seized in the St Andrew North police division since the start of the year. Yesterday the police seized a shotgun in Whitehall Avenue.

On the night 32-year-old Carr was killed, relatives stumbled on his bullet-riddled body at his home in Burkewood district in Rock Hall, St Andrew.

Reports from the Red Hills police are that, about 8 p.m., relatives became concerned after not being able to contact Carr for some time.

Carr’s brother told The Gleaner that the family is not handling the death well, particularly as a relative, who had not been seen since the discovery of the body, was a suspect.

“The person suspected of the crime is our cousin. Is two brother pickney dem. In the day they had a fight and him (Carr) beat him up… . Him and him did have a little conflict Sunday in the day and then him go back for him in the night… . I think a five shot him get. It’s a talking point in the community up there,” Carr’s older brother told The Gleaner.

Divisional Commander for the St Andrew North police Acting Superintendent Randy Sweeney told The Gleaner that the suspect did the right thing by surrendering.

“He is a suspect in a case of murder and a shooting incident that took place yesterday in the Rock Hall space… We are encouraging suspects, wanted and persons of interest to turn themselves in and not to challenge the police,” Sweeney told The Gleaner.

The divisional head said the police will not tolerate or allow gunmen and gangsters to disrupt the lives of law-abiding citizens, especially in the St Andrew North division.

Acting Superintendent Sweeney is urging residents to call crime stop 311 and 924-1421 at the Constant Spring police and report criminals.
