The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) says it will be offering free vaccines to the public as it observes Vaccination Week in the Americas from April 26 to May 3.

The week is being observed under the theme "Your decision makes a difference. Immunisation for all".

Additionally, Pap Smear Week will be observed from April 24 to 30.

SERHA says during the period, the health departments will host various activities across the parishes of St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew to emphasise the importance of immunisation and early detection, while also raising public awareness.

In recognition of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in April, SERHA is encouraging all women aged 20 and older to get screened for cervical cancer.

It notes that the disease remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Jamaican women. Pap Smear Week serves as a key initiative in reducing Jamaica’s high incidence of cervical cancer.

Members of the public are encouraged to take their vaccination cards to the vaccination sites.

Vaccinations and screening will be offered in Kingston and St Andrew on April 26 at the Harbour View Health Centre and the Comprehensive Health Centre on Slipe Pen Road.

Meanwhile, in St Catherine vaccinations and screening will be offered on April 27 at the Old Harbour Health Centre and the St Jago Park Health Centre.
