Police advise of road closures for carnival road marches
The police are advising members of the public of several road closures to be instituted, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, to facilitate the three carnival road marches.
They say motorists can expect delays or detours along roadways in and around New Kingston, Half-Way Tree, Liguanea, Hope Road, Knutsford Boulevard, Trafalgar Road, Waterloo Road and Oxford Road.
Guidelines to be enforced by the police during the parade:
* No parking in designated no-parking zones. Illegally parked vehicles will be impounded at the owner's expense.
* No vending stalls or handcart vendors will be allowed along the parade routes.
* Firecrackers or explosive devices are prohibited.
* Motor or pedal cyclists, including quad bikes, are not allowed to participate in the parades.
* ATVs are not allowed to participate in the parades.
Road Closures for Specific Parades:
Gen XS Road Parade (8:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) - Starting at Jamaica Pegasus, the parade will continue to Oxford road, Old Hope Road, Lady Musgrave Road, Trafalgar Road, Knutsford Boulevard and will end at Emancipation Park.
Xodus Road Parade (10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.) -Starting at Devon House on Waterloo Road, the parade will continue onto Trafalgar Road, Lady Musgrave Road, Hope Road, Lady Musgrave Road, Old Hope Road, Oxford Road, Knutsford Boulevard, Trafalgar Road and end at Devon House.
Yard Mas Road Parade ( 8:45 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) - Starting at Author Wint Drive, the parade will proceed to Tom Redcam Avenue, Oxford Road, Knutsford Boulevard, Trafalgar Road, Lady Musgrave Road, Fairway Avenue, Stanton Terrace/Roosevelt Avenue and end at Independence Park.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force says police personnel will be stationed at various points along the routes to provide guidance. Persons are being urged to obey their instructions.
The police say persons living or conducting legitimate business in those affected areas will be allowed to enter or leave prior to and after the convoy has passed.
