23 rounds of ammo and gun seized in St Mary, couple charged
A St Mary man and his wife have been charged after the police recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition at their home in Orange Field in Castleton on Tuesday.
Charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition are 31-year-old landscaper Shamar Newby, otherwise called ‘Speng’, and 30-year-old Donesa Anderson-Newby.
The police report that about 5 o’clock, lawmen conducted a raid at a two-storey dwelling in the Orange Field area.
During the search, a Steyr nine millimetre pistol, along with a magazine and 23 rounds of nine millimetre ammunition, was found concealed inside a knapsack hanging on a wall in the bedroom.
Following the discovery, they were taken into custody and later charged.
Their court date is to be finalised.
"We are urging anyone with information that could assist with this investigation to contact the Port Maria Police at 876-333-9530 or 876-994-4222," said Anthony Wallace, Head of the St Mary Police Division.
Wallace said the police will remain resolute in their efforts to rid communities, and by extension, the parish of illegal firearms to ensure public safety.
