Ganja worth $40m seized off Westmoreland coast, two people arrested

Two people have been detained following the seizure of approximately 663 pounds of marijuana valued at approximately $40 million from a vessel intercepted off the Westmoreland coast on Wednesday.

The seizure was made by the Maritime Air and Cyber Command of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

The JDF says 37 bags of marijuana were seized during the interdiction.

The JDF adds that it remains committed to utilising its air and maritime assets to counter illicit trafficking and protect Jamaica’s borders.

It is also urging all seafarers to use Jamaica’s maritime spaces in accordance with the law and to report illegal activities to the JDF Tip Line at (876)-837-8888, the Maritime Air and Operations Centre (MAOC) at 876-967-8193, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (Kingston, Jamaica) at (876) 836-1216.
