Homes flooded in Burger Gully during heavy rain on Friday
Residents of Burger Gully in Mountain View, St Andrew, were on Friday evening seeking to dry out their homes and salvage their belongings after heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in the area in the afternoon.
Some persons reportedly had to evacuate their homes. Damage was reported to homes, furniture and appliances.
One resident, Orlando Hamilton, said the flooding was caused by structural failure of a section of the gully and called for the Government and the National Works Agency (NWA) to urgently address the issue.
“We have shed some light on this two years ago, and we are back here again with the same situation. Not even the same, worse. The situation has been worsened… and this need immediate, immediate attention from the Government.
Hamilton said a team from the NWA had visited the area to do assessments, but he the repairs need to be expedited.
“Every time the rain falls, this is what happens. Because this is a major gully that takes the water from uptown straight to the ocean, to the harbour. So we need this to be remedied right now, because it is now a crisis,” he said.
