Businessman pleads guilty in death of 3-y-o son
St Catherine businessman, Rowan Hinds, is to be sentenced in the Home Circuit Court on July 10 after pleading guilty to the charges of failure to secure firearm and manslaughter in relation to the death of his three-year-old son.
Hinds pleaded guilty in the death of Rojaghn Hinds when he appeared in court on Wednesday.
It is alleged that about 1:30 p.m. on July 29, 2024, the accused returned from church to his Ebony Vale home and placed his licensed Smith and Wesson nine-millimetre pistol under a couch inside the house.
The businessman had reportedly gone outside to dispose of garbage when he heard an explosion, rushed inside the house and saw the child's mother with Rojaghn in her arms and blood coming from his head.
The child was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation was launched by the Spanish Town police, which resulted in the arrest and charge of Hinds.
He appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court and the matter was subsequently transferred to the Gun Court, which has jurisdiction.
