Man fatally shot in alleged shoot-out with police in Central Village

A man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police in Windsor Heights, Central Village, St Catherine, on Saturday.

Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Reports are that around 8:20 a.m., a police team was conducting an operation in the community when, upon approaching a premises, they were allegedly challenged by a man armed with a shotgun.

The cops reportedly took evasive action and opened fire, injuring the man.

A shotgun, loaded with one cartridge, was seized from him, the police said.

The injured man was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations.
