Kingston attorney Ano Miller Sewell is to appear in court later this month on charges related to her alleged failure to account for over $37.8 million given to her by a client to purchase a St Andrew property.

Miller Sewell was arrested and charged with fraudulent conversion and possession of criminal property when she reported to the police Fraud Squad on May 27 accompanied by her attorney.

She was granted station bail in the sum of $1 million and is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on June 30.

Miller Sewell was reportedly retained by the complainant last year to handle the purchase of a $57.6 million property located along Reds Hills Road.

The complainant reported that between January and March 2024 she transferred the full purchase price to the attorney with the understanding that the transaction would be completed within 60 days.

It’s alleged, however, that Miller Sewell only disbursed $19.8 million to the attorneys for the vendors and has failed to pay over the balance of $37.8 million despite repeated requests.

A report has also been made to the General Legal Council (GLC) sources revealed.

The GLC regulates the legal profession in Jamaica.
