Off-duty cop shoots taxi operator in St Catherine; INDECOM probing

Investigations are under way into the shooting of a 29-year-old taxi operator by an off-duty policeman during a reported confrontation in Gutters, St Catherine, on Friday.

The incident reported happened at about 12:30 p.m..

It's alleged that the taxi operator and the policeman became involved in a physical altercation when the officer allegedly discharged his firearm, shooting the man.

The injured taxi operator was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

Both the Independent Commission of Investigations and the police’s Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau are probing the incident.
