A People’s National Party (PNP) government will make it easier for police officers to access licensed firearms, Kingston Central representative Steve McGregor has declared.

McGregor, a retired senior police officer, was addressing party supporters in the St Andrew East Central constituency on Sunday. He said the issue remains a major concern for members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

“Since this week, I saw a policeman who live uppa Mountain View, and dem turn him down because of where he live. Dat nah go happen under our watch,” McGregor stated.

He said a future PNP administration would introduce an expedited process allowing police officers—once cleared by their divisional commanders—to obtain a licensed firearm if they choose to do so.

McGregor also predicted a historic showing by law enforcement at the polls.

“We have the backs of police officers,” he declared. “The next general election will have the biggest police turnout in recent times.”'

McGregor also urged supporters to reject vote-buying tactics. "They (JLP) used a general election budget to try to win the local government election and it never work, cause dem cyaa buy wi out. So mek dem gweh wid dem money,” he said.

Councillor Dennis Gordon is the PNP’s standard-bearer in St Andrew East Central, replacing longtime Member of Parliament Dr Peter Phillips.
