Portland Eastern Member of Parliament Ann-Marie Vaz claims Opposition Leader Mark Golding will never become Prime Minister of Jamaica, dismissing his repeated intention to "rescue" the country from the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

“The last talk I hear you make is ‘bout when you become prime minister. First of all, that will never happen, so you can stop right there,” Vaz said Sunday.

She was speaking at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Area Council One meeting under way at the Fletcher’s Land Community Centre in Kingston Western.

Vaz also addressed criticisms from the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) and urged Labourites to reject “badmind.”

“The little school bus that we brought to Portland to give country people a bus system, dem badmind it till dem can’t badmind it no more,” Vaz said.

She added that the buses have since led to the establishment of a national rural school bus system for Jamaican children.

“What kind of people badmind children going to school safe? How can you stand up and instead of trying to figure out how you can help make this work for the children who are the future of this country, you badmind it? What kind of people? We not going back to them,” she declared.

Vaz said Portland is experiencing "prosperity" because of the Holness administration, and urged Labourites to give the party a third consecutive term based on its achievements. She highlighted the low crime and unemployment rates.

“Labourites, we gonna choose Jamaica… We have the best leader, the best Prime Minister the Caribbean and the world has ever seen,” Vaz said.

Vaz is set to be challenged by the PNP’s standard bearer Isat Buchanan in the next general elections.
