A former National Commercial Bank (NCB) employee is going to prison for one year for stealing nearly $6 million from the financial institution.

Arsenio Johnson, a former retail support officer based at the bank’s New Kingston head offices, was sentenced on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny as a servant.

Johnson also paid back the $5.8 million he defrauded.

He was also facing charges for breaches of the Cybercrimes Act and the Proceeds of Crime Act, but those charges were dismissed after prosecutors offered no evidence against him.

Over a 30-month period starting in January 2020, Johnson fraudulently transferred sums totalling $5.8 million from the bank’s suspense account to another account that he had control over.

The funds were later transferred to Johnson’s savings account.

He was arrested by detectives from the police Fraud Squad in July 2022.
