Father and 3-y-o daughter killed in highway crash, woman injured
A crash along a section of the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000 in Toll Gate, Clarendon on Monday claimed the lives of a father and his three-year-old daughter, a day before her birthday.
It is reported that around 2:00 p.m., the father, identified as 29-year-old Luchion Bennett, was travelling in a BMW X6 SUV with his daughter, identified as Lushana Bennett, and a female companion when the vehicle reportedly suffered a tyre blowout.
He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, crashed through a fence, and reportedly rolled several times some distance away from the highway in bushes before coming to a stop.
Some 15 poles from the fence were damaged.
All three persons were thrown from the vehicle.
The father and his child died at the scene.
The woman was taken to hospital in serious condition.
Meanwhile, with damage to the fence, there is concern about cattle venturing onto the highway, posing a risk to motorists.
A worker with the highway, who turned up at the scene, told The Gleaner that work will be done tomorrow to fix the damaged fence.
He encouraged motorists to adhere to the speed limit on the highway.
