Mavis Bank man charged with assaulting a constable

The police have charged a man for engaging in a physical confrontation with cops who attempted to arrest him in his Mavis Bank community in St Andrew.

Twenty-five-year-old labourer Tawayne Thaxter has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assaulting a constable.

Reports from the Mavis Bank Police are that about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, cops on patrol in the area were approached by a man who made a report about Thaxter.

Shortly afterward, Thaxter was reportedly seen armed with a pickaxe.

When a member of the police team attempted to retrieve the weapon, Thaxter allegedly physically assaulted the constable, resulting in a tussle between the two.

Both Thaxter and the constable sustained injuries during the struggle and were transported to hospital for treatment.

Thaxter was later taken into custody and subsequently charged.

Thaxter is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, September
