Engineer drowns after vehicle plunges into Rio Cobre

The Bog Walk police in St Catherine are investigating the drowning death of a mechanical engineer in the Rio Cobre on Wednesday.

He has been identified as Garfield Batts, 58 years old, of Green Acres, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 7:45 a.m., Batts was travelling through the Bog Walk Gorge when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road.

The vehicle plunged into the Rio Cobre and Batts is suspected to have subsequently drowned.

The body was eventually removed for a post-mortem examination to be conducted.
