Full power restored to St Catherine communities impacted by train derailment - JPS
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is reporting that full electricity has been returned to customers who lost power due to the train derailment in the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine on Saturday, as well as to those impacted later by the damage to its backup system.
In a statement on Monday, JPS stated that all areas were restored by Sunday night.
The Bog Walk Gorge was also reopened to the public.
On Saturday, a Windalco train derailed in the Bog Walk Gorge, resulting in significant damage to JPS' power transmission and distribution network.
Several poles, spans of wire, and other equipment were destroyed, causing outages in sections of St Catherine.
Rain and lightning conditions yesterday also impacted the rate of repair and restoration of supply to customers, said JPS.
