JLP expressing confidence in its forthcoming manifesto ahead of the release of the PNP's
With the Opposition People's National Party set to release its election manifesto this evening, Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party's Manifesto and Achievements Committee, Kamina Johnson Smith, is seeking to assure that her party will present its manifesto in time for it to be properly assessed ahead of the September 3 general election.
In a statement to the media on Tuesday afternoon, Johnson Smith said the JLP was curious to see what is outlined in the PNP's manifesto, based on the promises made by PNP officials on the campaign trail so far.
"We look forward with interest to see what makes it into print because of course the announcements that they have been making so far, have not only failed to inspire the people of Jamaica, but have maybe required more thinking because they have required clarification upon clarification or demonstrated a clear disconnection from what it takes to cost and fund a budget in today's world," Johnson Smith said.
The PNP will launch its manifesto dubbed "Jamaica Love: A People's Pledge to Country' at a function at the Jamaica Pegasus, starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Johnson Smith said the JLP is maintaining its own timetable for the release of its manifesto.
"We are confident in the manifesto that we will put forward. We will launch it in the time that we had planned to launch it. It is complete, policies are settled and we look forward to taking the opportunity to engage with the people of Jamaica on the manifesto and will do so in sufficient time for it to be ventilated prior to the September third date that the prime minister has announced," she stated.
On July 30, the JLP also unveiled a document highlighting its accomplishments since 2016. The party says the report showcases progress that justifies its bid for a third consecutive term in office.
