The Byfield's Restaurant in 3 East Greater Portmore, St Catherine was damaged by a fire on August 13.

Byfield's Restaurant, a popular cook shop in 3 East Greater Portmore, St Catherine, was razed by a fire early this morning.

The owners of the establishment believe that the fire may have been an act of arson.

They pointed to the presence of broken bottles, which they suspect were part of Molotov cocktails used to start the blaze.

The owners told The Gleaner that they were alerted to the fire by residents via telephone shortly after 1:00 a.m.

They said that upon arriving from their home elsewhere in St Catherine, the business was already engulfed in flames.

The fire was subsequently extinguished.

No one was injured in the blaze.

The business was insured.

The incident is being probed by the police.
