Late business titan and former Group Chief Executive Officer of GraceKennedy Limited, Don Wehby, was today remembered for his leadership, contributions to national development, and deep love for family.

Wehby, who had been ailing, died at age 62 in July.

He retired from the food and finance conglomerate in February, after initially going on leave to focus on his health.

Family, friends, work colleagues, government officials, and other dignitaries gathered at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston today to celebrate Wehby's life and pay their last respects.

In his tribute, Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness described Wehby as a national figure whose presence was felt in all the areas he touched, calling his death a loss of one of Jamaica's great sons.

Holness reflected that Wehby was someone who was committed to service and nation-building.

"Jamaica has lost a statesman, a true leader, and a business titan, but his example will remain as a beacon for those who aspire to serve."

The Prime Minister stated that Wehby believed in giving back, with his efforts not limited to the private sector but extended to communities across Jamaica.

Holness said he was a principled and honest man who treated people with respect.

He also praised Wehby’s work in both the private and public sectors and how those contributions helped to develop Jamaica.

He further highlighted his love for his family.

Patriot, decisive, collaborative, strong, and humble were some of the words used by Holness to describe Wehby.

Wehby was born on July 14, 1963.

He is survived by his wife, Hilary, and their three children.
