The constituency of St Andrew Eastern will have the first university town in Jamaica if the People’s National Party (PNP) forms the next government, the PNP candidate for the area, Patricia Duncan Sutherland, has announced.

The constituency is home to the University of Technology Jamaica and the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.

Duncan Sutherland said the creation of a university town would provide an economic boom for residents.

“Because of that university town we are going to generate so much economic activity that we are going to lift the lives of all of the people,” she told journalists on Monday.

Duncan Sutherland was nominated at Mona High School shortly after 10 a.m.

She is expected to go up against the Jamaica Labour Party incumbent Fayval Williams, the Minister of Finance and the Public Service who is seeking a third straight term as Member of Parliament for St Andrew Eastern.
