Peter Bunting has secured his return to the House of Representatives after winning the general election in Manchester Southern, marking another chapter in his long and eventful political career.

The People’s National Party (PNP) heavyweight polled 8,573 votes to the Jamaica Labour Party’s Ian Ives’ 7,903.

Bunting is no stranger to the corridors of Gordon House. His first stint in Parliament came in 1993 when, in a stunning upset, he defeated former Prime Minister Hugh Shearer to win the Clarendon South Eastern seat. Bunting held that constituency for a term before stepping away from representational politics to focus on his business ventures.

He re-entered the political arena in 2007, this time reclaiming a seat for the PNP in Manchester Central. Bunting was re-elected in two elections, 2011 and 2016, but suffered a crushing defeat in the 2020 general election to the JLP’s Rhoda Moy Crawford.
