Two charged with murder of St Thomas farmer
Two men have been charged with murder following the stabbing death of a 41-year-old farmer during a dispute at a bar in the Fort Leith Hall district in St Thomas last month.
The accused are 45-year-old Dwayne Capleton, otherwise called ‘Tall Man,’ and 41-year-old Oneil Stewart, both of Fort Leith Hall district in St Thomas, the police said Monday.
Police said the charges stem from the killing of Eaton Whittle, also of Fort Leith Hall, at about 1:35 a.m. on February 18 while the men were among patrons at a bar.
Reports from the Morant Bay police are that an argument developed between Capleton, Stewart and Whittle.
The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation during which Capleton allegedly used a knife to stab Whittle in the chest.
Both men then fled the scene on foot.
Whittle was taken to hospital, where he later died while undergoing treatment.
Police said the incident was reported and an investigation launched.
The two men were subsequently arrested during a targeted police operation and later charged following an identification parade.
They are scheduled to appear before the court on March 24.
