Five charged in connection with robbery at store in Angels, St Catherine freed after making restitution
Five persons who were charged in connection with the theft of dozens of cell phones and other electronics valued at over $2 million from a store in Angels, St Catherine have been freed after making restitution to the owner.
When the matter came up in court yesterday, the owner said he wished to drop the case following the restitution.
Attorney-at-law Fabian Campbell told the court that, with restitution having been made, the matter should be brought to an end.
The accused were then freed by Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle.
Freed were Franklin Grosse of Mandeville, Manchester, and Ronaldo Murray, 40, of Farm Pen in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, who were both charged with larceny, housebreaking, conspiracy to housebreaking, and conspiracy to larceny.
The other accused are Pansy Henry, Cordel Williams, and Demitri Ffrench, who were charged with receiving stolen property.
The police report that on the night of January 16, the owner of a store at Angels Plaza in St Catherine locked his business and left.
It is further reported that around 3:00 a.m. on January 17, he received an alarm from his security company indicating that there was a break-in at his store.
Checks revealed that a glass door had been shattered.
Camera footage was reviewed, and the men were seen entering the store and stealing items, which included 59 smartphones, 11 tablets, and six laptops valued at over $2,000,000.
They escaped in a waiting motor car.
Investigators reviewed the footage, and the investigation led to the men’s arrest.
They were subsequently charged on Saturday, January 24, following a question-and-answer session in the presence of their attorney.
Further investigations led to the arrest and charging of the other individuals.
