NWC working to improve water supply in sections of St Mary

Residents in several communities across St Mary are expected to benefit from improved water supply reliability, following measures being implemented by the National Water Commission (NWC) at the White River facility.
Acting NWC Water Production Team Leader for St Mary, Christopher Cheddersingh, provided the update while presenting his report during the monthly meeting of the St Mary Municipal Corporation’s Infrastructure and Traffic Management Committee on Tuesday.
“Currently, we are experiencing some issues at the White River facility,” Cheddersingh said, noting that the challenges have been affecting several communities.
These include Three Hills, Charles Town, Valley Bush, Rocky Hill, sections of Tower Isles: Caribbean Park, Balmoral Heights, the upper section of Spring Valley, and a section of Pompano Bay.
Cheddersingh explained that the disruption is due to mechanical challenges at the facility, specifically involving a standby pump that is not large enough to sustain the plant’s operations.
Additional areas impacted include Industry Pen, Healing, and the St Mary Country Club.
Cheddersingh indicated that corrective work is now under way to resolve the issue.
“The maintenance team is currently there, working. They’re doing some modifications to instal another pump,” he further informed.
Cheddersingh added that the situation should be resolved shortly.
“Based on the information I received, by early next week everything will be okay. In the interim, we are planning to do some trucking [of water] in the area,” he stated.
