Credit unions’ concern for community continues
When Hurricane Melissa struck, the regional credit union family answered the call. Funding and supplies were organized in 2025 to bring immediate aid to those affected. When the assistance arrived in 2026 from the Trinidad and Tobago League and its member credit unions, Credit Union volunteers on the ground in Jamaica continued to give their time into the new year, carrying the mission forward to help their fellow Jamaicans get back on their feet.
Between February 2 and February 20, volunteers from C&WJ Co-operative Credit Union, Trelawny Co-operative Credit Union, First Regional Co-operative Credit Union, Infiniti Co-operative Credit Union, and the NeXGen Change Makers joined the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League Group (JCCUL) officials, on behalf of the Credit Unions of Jamaica to distribute a 40-foot container of aid to children’s homes and schools. They delivered food, mattresses, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, water, and tarpaulins to nine institutions across St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Trelawny, St Ann, and Montego Bay.
The volunteers lived out the seventh co-operative principle, Concern for Community. While organizations funded the effort, these individuals gave it a face.
