A police constable has been charged over a shooting in Preston Hill, St Mary last June that left a man dead and a woman injured.

Constable Alwyn Hill is charged with murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and wounding with intent.

Hill appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Wednesday, where he was granted $750,000 with one to three sureties and reporting conditions.

The incident occurred on June 8, 2025.

Following a probe by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled that Hill should be charged.

Killed was Ricardo Small.

According to INDECOM, the incident stemmed from a verbal exchange that escalated into a physical confrontation between Small and Hill.

The matter is set to return to court on December 3.
