Fun, laughter at Wolmers' staging of Dance Ailey II

The Wolmer's Trustee collaborated with the next generation of Dance Ailey II for a gala performance at the Little Theatre on Sunday, September 28, as part of their 285 celebrations. Scores of 'Wolmerians', associated alumni and other specially invited guests waltzed into the venue to experience the fusing of the two cultures of young talented dancers, as they bring art to life.

Before the start of the performance, dance enthusiasts from all across the island, who came together for the same cause. Pauline Findlay, trustee and chair of the Wolmer's Board of Management and other committee members were welcoming - they met and greeted patrons and engaged in conversations that caused some to throw their heads back in laughter.

The air was a mixture of fun and laughter coupled with chicken kebabs, fruits, orange juice, and red and white wines to prepare their palates for a night that was expected to be a rewarding one - the performance of the dancers from the Jamaica National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) and the Ailey II dance company.

The Artistic Director of Ailey II, Troy Powell told Outlook how happy they were to be apart of the initiative. "I always look at it like a celebration to have two very strong cultures coming together in one country to celebrate dance. It's always great to have two very profound dance groups in one place."

The woman behind the grooming of these young talented dancers is Alia Kache, rehearsal director. She told Outlook, "It's a joy working with the team, I get a lot of joy working with the dancers, seeing them grow - to watch them blossom into full fledged dancers is really rewarding. It's a lot of fun and I am willing to go all the way," she smiled.

As Ailey II dance group company's tenure in the island comes to an end, Kache said that on their return to New York, they will be going on tour. "When we go back to New York, we will finish rehearsal and begin our domestic tour for three weeks - all over New York and then Europe, Germany, and France," she concluded.
