Sweet Honey in The Rocks performs at Ambassador Moreno’s Residence

'Sweet Honey in The Rock'
Blues on The Greens kicked off at the residence of the United States ambassador to Jamaica, Luis G. Moreno, with a private performance by the Grammy-Award winning ensemble Sweet Honey in The Rock.
On Thursday, February 26, the ambassador welcomed specially-invited guests to his Jack's Hill residence for the signature cultural event, put on by the American Embassy as part of their celebration of African-American History Month. The event facilitated reflection on ongoing advances towards social inclusion and the elimination of racial and other forms of inequality.
According to Joshua Polacheck, the Embassy's Consular for Public Affairs, "It is a cultural dialogue to spark a discussion on inclusiveness in Jamaica and in the United States. I hope this gets everyone thinking about what it means to respect all people."
The halls of the ambassador's residence reverberated with the smooth harmony that reflected the 42-year history of the revered all-female group. Their performance was not short of diversity - a mixture of blues, jazz, gospel and R&B, with excursions into symphonic and dance theatre.
Laughter punctuated the night before and after the group's performance as specially invited guests mingled while being served a wide variety of hot hors d'oeuvre such as shrimp rundown on sweet potato cake, vegetable and jerked chicken spring rolls, tomato basil pie, peanut butter and jelly ice cream (homemade), Blue Mountain bread pudding with Scotch bonnet cream, deep fried pina colada and ice cream with peppercorn chocolate drizzle with wine of their choice.
Specially invited guests included: Audley Shaw, Omar Davis, Peter Phillips, Orville 'Shaggy' Burrell and wife Rebecca Packer, Kaci Fennell, Miss Universe Jamaica, Island Grill's Thalia Lyn and members of the US Military among others.
