Physicians celebrate in fine style

The Association of Consultant Physicians of Jamaica held their President's Reception and Banquet last Saturday, where they honoured two exemplary physicians at Talk of the Town at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

The banquet started with a cocktail reception on the roof of the hotel offering guests a breathtaking view of the city. But wherever you looked, you were greeted by beauty as the doctors came dressed to kill and resuscitate. The gentlemen's sharp suits and the women's beautiful dresses might have a few people feigning illnesses to have their vitals checked.

The charismatic psychiatrist Dr Aggrey Irons kept guests thoroughly entertained throughout the official proceedings. The welcome was done by Dr Althea Aquart-Stewart while Reverend Everald Galbraith said grace. Dr Sheray Chin gave a speedy toast to the association, before it was time for the guest speaker Courtney Betty, president and chief executive officer of Timeless Herbal Care Limited, who was introduced by Dr Lilieth Johnson-Whittaker.

Though Betty touched on the topic of medical marijuana, that wasn't the core of his speech, as he encouraged the physicians to be the David (from the story of David and Goliath) and make a difference.

Those who have made a difference were doctors Hafeezul Mohammed and Amza Ali. Dr Mohammed is consultant physician in internal medicine and cardiology, while Dr Ali is a senior consultant physician and neurologist. Over the years, both have gone above the call of duty. Their passions are driven by truly helping their patients.

Both men were clearly honoured to be so celebrated by their colleagues. The night ended with a warm vote of thanks by Dr Marie Williams as the doctors enjoyed what was left of the night without their stethoscopes.
