WESTERN BUREAU:

Richard Ferdinand, his wife Melissa and mother-in-law Paulette Chang were the first to cut a green-frosted cake with General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party and Member of Parliament for St James North West Dr Horace Chang.

Ferdinand and Melissa (one of Chang's two children) organised a victory reception for the newly elected MP, who is not known to lose an election. "He has become famous for the seat in MoBay that can never be lost," quipped Robert Russell, Chang's long-time friend.

Hosted by Tryall homeowner Maria Oparina-Roberson at her fabulous Coo-Yah Villa on the Hanover estate, the event gave Chang an opportunity to reflect on what he described as a tough year (2015) for the JLP.

"We are going to need your support because the work has just started," Chang told the intimate group of friends and members of the business community who had defied remnants of the heavy showers to make the trip to Tryall for the celebration.

It was an evening well spent as Fitzroy 'Saxie' Minott, one of Chang's constituents, flew the notes to 'Ain't No Stopping Us Now', signalling, in no uncertain words, that this JLP victory was a sweet one.

Newly elected MP Heroy Clarke, who represents the St James Central constituency, also came out to celebrate with the man who pulled out all the stops to ensure a St James victory.

Outlook missed Member of Parliament for St James East Central Edmund Bartlett, but understands that he, too, turned up after the team departed.
