Jamaica Exporters' Association (JEA) celebrated their 50th anniversary with elegance and by rewarding 50 exporters for a job well done.

The night was a bit humid and guests made it blazing hot in their black-tie ensembles. Women looked like they walked out of a white carriage, while the men could easily grace the pages of GQ magazine.

The graceful Paula-Anne Porter-Jones wore the coat of master of ceremonies for the night. President Michelle Chong gave a welcome which was more of a thank you for the supporters and members of the JEA referring to them as silent heroes.

Bernadette Wong introduced Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Karl Samuda who was to be the keynote speaker for the afternoon. Minister Samuda wanted to keep with the trend of the night and have a positive outlook on export industry. He noted that he was not there to speak on whatever happened in the past but to look towards the future. He urged exporters to start thinking outside of CARICOM because Jamaica has to move outside of this.

 

DON'T FEAR OTHER COUNTRIES

Minister Samuda also highlighted that we need not be fearful of any other country as we have the potential to exceed our expectations. He also spoke to employment of youths and how nurturing their growth and ideas influences Jamaica's growth.

After the minister was finished with his encouraging speech, it was time for the JEA to follow suit giving 50 exporters their much deserved awards.

The night ended with some of the guests leaving with fabulous gate prises while all left with a relaxing evening of fine dining and with fine people.
