Members, clients, and business partners of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) filled its conference room last Friday to attend a Lunch and Learn seminar.

The topic was ‘Customs Act 2019’ and the presenter was Hazel Edwards, senior director of legal affairs at Jamaica Customs Agency. The audience gave Edwards their undivided attention as she gave them a taste of what the repealed and replaced Customs Act has in store for shipping, warehousing, manufacturing, and other interests represented in the room. Edwards explained that the new legislation would, among other things, bring Jamaica more in line with the Revised Kyoto Convention, which is ‘the gold standard of customs practices’.

The sponsor, Crowley, was represented by Director of Business Development Ana Molina-Diaz, who praised the SAJ at the close of the function.

“I really love this format,” she said, “and the topic was very good.” Molina-Diaz made a presentation to the audience outlining Crowley’s services and offerings in the region, particularly for Jamaica. Crowley is represented in Jamaica by Lannaman and Morris Shipping Limited.
