WESTERN BUREAU:

Members of a visiting United States-based medical delegation to Jamaica were given an official welcome last Saturday night at a cocktail reception at the Grand Palladium Resort in Hanover.

The medical team, led by Florida-based physician, Dr Kenneth Jones, is on the island on an inaugural visit dubbed, Medical Mission Hanover, to provide much-needed medical care and supplies to needy residents of the parish.

The outdoor reception area of the resort's beautiful spa terrace served as the perfect setting for the reception, where elegantly attired guests were fÍted in fine style. An open bar provided an endless supply of wines and other beverages, and as guests drank and exchanged pleasantries, they also took time out to feast on a variety delicious hors d'oeuvres.

The formal affair was attended by several civic leaders and other distinguished personalities throughout Western Jamaica. Chief among the attendees was Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, who spent the evening greeting guests.

During her official welcome remarks, the prime minister thanked the team for their humanitarian gesture and commended them for choosing Jamaica.

"I want to use this opportunity to thank all members of the team who will host these clinics and who will perform surgeries at the Falmouth and Cornwall Regional hospitals. Your collaboration with the Western Regional Heath Authority is an example of the kind of partnerships which are important in strengthening Jamaica's public-health

services," she said.

Saxophonist Fitzroy Minott provided the evening's entertainment with a melodious mix of tunes from different genres. During his performance, many of the guests, including the prime minister, took the opportunity to showcase some of their dance moves.

Medical Mission Hanover is spearheaded by The Most Honourable Errald Miller, as part of his continuous efforts to give back to his birth parish.
